Approximately 24 mm in diameter and 18 mm thick, this remarkable tropical seed has a hard, polishable shell. It is widely used in tropical America and Africa for crafting jewelry and in traditional medicine.
There are about a hundred species of Mucuna and Macropsychanthus in tropical regions, whose remarkable and durable seeds are known in French as Œil de bœuf, œil de bourrique, or œil de biche.
